The Domestic Workers Directorate at the Ministry of Labor announced that it processed approximately 33,834 transactions during the first half of 2024.

In a statement received by Roya News, Faiz Jabour, the Director of the Domestic Workers Directorate, detailed that the processed transactions included 9,910 applications for the recruitment of domestic workers from various permitted nationalities, 14,887 work permit renewals, 4,070 worker replacements both within and outside the kingdom, 4,837 transfers of domestic workers from one employer to another, and 130 domestic worker hires from within the country.

Jabour also noted that inspectors carried out 17 inspections of domestic worker recruitment offices. As a result of these inspections, three offices were suspended, and one was shut down for violating labor laws and related regulations. Additionally, the directorate processed 18 license renewals for other offices.

Jabour highlighted that Jordan recruits domestic workers from seven countries, including four African nations—Ghana, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Kenya—and three Asian countries—Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka.

Ethiopia topped the list of countries from which domestic workers were recruited, with 3,897 workers, followed by Uganda with 3,179 workers, and the Philippines with 1,321 workers.

The Ministry of Labor's efforts, in response to complaints, successfully recovered approximately 133,637 Jordanian dinars for employers and secured wages totaling around 15,764 dinars for domestic workers.
